Yoga for Concussions

This 5 week program brings together yogic practices of movement, breath, and meditation along with new pain research, the latest strength and mobility training, and best practices in yoga for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and concussion. The pace, format, and tone of this course is especially designed for people with mild brain injuries, those living with Post Concussion Syndrome, and people who struggle with anxiety and mood swings related to brain injury and/or concussion. See what we practice in Care for Tired Eyes, Brain Fog, and Headaches.

Program Structure

Each week, we gather virtually to move and breathe together. Classes use repetition of concepts and actions to deepen learning. Classes include strength and mobility work, slow and steady poses, meditation, breathwork, and rest practices proven to support brain wellbeing. Participants are encouraged to choose how they want to participate based on how they are feeling that day. Some days, people might prefer to listen over active participation.

This program is for people who are:

  • in need of easy ways to care for their mind, head, neck, and eyes

  • experiencing anxiety or depression after a brain injury or concussion

  • living with Post Concussion Syndrome

  • looking for a community of other people with similar experiences

We will explore these questions: Which practices trigger symptoms and which calm the body down? What helps increase energy? The course is a chance for people to notice how their bodies and minds respond to the various ways of practicing yoga: physical poses, breathwork, mindfulness, rest. We cover these topics:

  • Growing from the experience of brain injury

  • Neuroplasticity and Movement

  • Capacity/Self-Assessment: how to check in with your symptoms

  • Spoon Theory, Regression, and Progression

  • Setback Protocols

Participants receive:

  • 4 live yoga classes (60 minutes each) including restorative practices

  • 3 prerecorded videos to help ease headaches, train eyes, and calm neck pain

  • Alternative formats: PDFs and audio recordings of lessons

  • Opportunities to connect with other Traumatic Brain Injury survivors

Testimonials about the Course

  • Alissa's gentle and generous approach as a facilitator was so nourishing for me. The Yoga for Concussions course became a time in the week that I looked forward to, a space that really helped me to honour the capacity of my mind and body. The course content was always helpful and I really appreciated connecting with others who have experienced TBI. I came away from the course with some important tools and a sense of shared community, but importantly, also the feeling of being affirmed and understood in my experience.

  • I love the Brain Care Cheat Sheet and will try the video. I feel fortunate to have found you and appreciate all that you do for the brain injured.

  • I like Alissa’s approach as well as the movements which I will be able to continue. I will recommend her course to others.
